“Save Me” Song Analysis

Avenged Sevenfold is confrontationally the greatest, rock band to ever grace the earth. The band is well known for they’re on stage characters, which are M.Shadows, The Rev, Johnny Christ, Synyster Gates, and Zachy Vengeance. When seen past there characters Avenged Sevenfold has amazing instrumental and vocal notes. Avenged Sevenfold has changed a little over the years but still remains to hold on to their original roots as a band. Avenged Sevenfold’s always brings the listener to the darker side of things. Avenged Sevenfold’s song “Save Me” contains many poetic devices that add to the overall feel of the song.
In “Save Me”, there are sophisticated poetic devices that add to the overall feel of the song. An example of personification in the song is “that sanity’s left us all blind” (Stanza 9, Line 49). This gives us that darker feel that Avenged Sevenfold usually strives for in their songs. Also, the hyperbole “tonight we all die young” (Stanza 10, Line 74) and this is to exaggerate the overall theme of the song and mood. This hyperbole makes the mood feel like we are all going to end up at the same place as him. The other hyperbole, “they say that all beauty must die, I say it just moves on” (Stanza 9, Line 53-54) this also adds to the morbid feel of the song and the help that never came to the person in need of help.
There are multiple sophisticated themes addressed in the song, “Save Me”. One of these themes is being loosing whom you want to be and are struggling to find yourself. An example of this theme would be “I can use some guiding light, some place to go” (Stanza 10, Line 71) which just shows that the main character needs help because they are facing some tough things. Another example would be “I’m losing my only dream” (Stanza 3, Line 17) and this shows that the main character is falling away from his dream and needs help before its to late for him to be saved. Another theme addressed is losing someone that you love and trying to get along with out him or her. An example of this theme would be “ I can hear the voices begging you to stay” (Stanza 9, Line 61) and this tells the listener that he is losing a loved one and doesn’t want them to go.
The poetic devices in the song enhance the overall feeling of the song as a whole. They give the listener a darker mood of life. The two major themes in this song are losing who you want to be as a person and losing a loved one. This song relates to the greater good scope of musical appreciation and understanding because it shows people that celebrities and rock stars all face the same problems we do in life. Also, that they are able to put these kinds of emotions into their songs for people to connect to them. The songwriter doesn’t have to tell the whole story just give a few clues for the listener to put the rest together. Finally, the song “Save Me” by Avenged Sevenfold, adds to the greater scope of musical appreciation because it gives more people the ability to connect to the artist if they have topics that everyone can relate to no matter who you are.
